Sooners 13th at The Ridges

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma men’s golf team finished its first tournament of the fall season in 13th place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn., over the weekend.

South Carolina took home the team title, outpacing second-place Auburn by eight strokes.  Rhys Davies of host East Tennessee State won medalist honors at 11 under par.
OU’s 290 Saturday afternoon was the sixth best team score of the second round.

For the Sooners, returning All-American and 2004 Big 12 Player of the Year Anthony Kim (La Quinta, Calif.) finished in a tie for 20th place with a three-round 220 (+4).  The junior shot rounds of 73, 72 and 75 at the 7,147 yard, par-72 Ridges Golf and Country Club.
Senior Shawn LaFontaine (Cobourg, Ontario) shot the team’s low round of the tournament, a one under 71 in the second round.  His three-round total of 222 (+6) put him in a tie for 26th.

Fellow seniors Justin Fraley (Rowlett, Texas) and Brodie Flanders (Petitcodiac, New Brunswick) finished tied for 51st and 73rd, respectively.

Sophomore Phillip Bryan (Mustang, Okla.), who made his first career start for the Sooners last year at the Ridges, carded a 234 (+18).

OU returns to the links Nov. 4-6 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club (par-72, 7,010 yards) in Rocky Face, Ga. It will mark the Sooners final fall tournament of the year.
