NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team continued its best start in program history with a 4-0 win over Drury Friday night at the OU Soccer Complex in front of 212 fans. OU improves to 3-0 while the Panthers fall to 1-2 on the season. The game was delayed one hour and 45 minutes due to a severe thunderstorm that moved through the area.
The Sooners' attack began in the 11th minute of action when sophomore Logan Womack scored off a pass from junior goalkeeper Jana Cunningham, who launched a ball to midfield where Womack took it and proceeded to the net. Junior Shannon Wing scored her first goal of the season when she received a pass from junior Krissy Dawson and, after a few dribbles, scored from the left side at 17:02
In the second half, Womack tallied her second goal and Dawson notched her second assist for OU's third score in the 67th minute. Oklahoma's final score, at 88:55, was an own goal when a Drury defender kicked the ball into the net.
Cunningham (3-0) earned the shutout while Drury goalkeeper Jennie Grib suffered the loss. The Sooners controlled the entire game, outshooting the Panthers, 30-2.
Womack has now scored in every game this year and leads the Sooners with four goals. OU has outscored its first three opponents, 11-0, and has not allowed a goal in the last 315:48 minutes of play, a school record.
"The delay had a little bit of an impact," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans. "Our first two goals of the game were set up nicely and I thought the defense was solid throughout. The team looks ready to play SMU on Sunday."
OU travels to Dallas, Texas, on Sunday to play SMU at 1 p.m. The Mustangs, like Oklahoma, are 3-0 on the year.
