NORMAN, Okla. - Texas A&M used a late goal by Emma Smith in the 85th minute to break a scoreless game and escape from Norman with a 1-0 win at John Crain Field on Sunday afternoon.
Off assists from Kristen Strutz and Linsey Woodard, Smith knocked the ball past Oklahoma keeper Catherine Wade (Midland, Texas) at 84:15 for the lone score of the game.
With the loss, the Sooners drop to 4-3 in Big 12 play and 11-5 overall. Texas A&M ups its record to 6-0-1 in conference and 12-3-1 overall.
Oklahoma freshman Lauren MacIver (Tulsa, Okla.) took a team-high six shots in the game followed by freshman Becky Nelson (Tulsa, Okla.) with four while junior Logan Womack (Norman, Okla.) finished with two. The Sooners as a team outshot A&M, 16-15.
The loss marked the second consecutive for Oklahoma at home after Texas snapped an eight-game win streak for the Sooners at John Crain Field with a 3-0 win on Friday night. Texas entered this weekend's action at the top of the Big 12 standings with A&M second and Oklahoma third.
Oklahoma's Wade recorded eight saves in the game while A&M's Katie Jo Spisak had four. The Aggies had four corner kicks for the game -- all in the first period -- while OU took three. Texas A&M compiled 12 fouls to Oklahoma's nine and A&M's Shannon Labhart garnered the game's only yellow card at 89:47.
Both teams had one offsides.
The Sooners next travel to Boulder to face the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. (MT). Oklahoma's road stretch continues at Lincoln, Neb., on Sunday, Oct. 27 with a game against the Cornhuskers at 1 p.m.
Oklahoma wraps up its 2002 regular season schedule on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Stillwater in the Bedlam game with Oklahoma State.
