Sooner doubles team comes up short in quarterfinals
NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma’s doubles team of Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) and Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) lost a disappointing 9-8 match to Duke’s Chris Brown and Ryan Heinberg in the quarterfinals of the 2003 Midland Racquet Club Invitational Sunday. Oklahoma was one of 15 top tennis programs competing at the Racquet Club in Midland, Texas.
The Sooners also competed in singles action. Tanasoiu cruised to an easy 6-0, 6-3, victory over Boise State’s Ehren Vaughan. In the round of 16, Tanasoiu was eliminated by Baylor’s Matijia Zgaga, 6-3, 6-4.
Lukasz Senezyszyn of SMU dropped Gregg, 6-2, 6-0, down to the consolation bracket. Gregg then won a three-set match over Texas Tech’s Esat Tanik, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6, before being upset by UCLA’s Chris Surapol, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
