General Game Notes

  • Coming into tonight, Villanova and George Washington have met two times and split the series. The last time the two school met was Jan. 13, 2001, on the Villanova campus. The Wildcats won 65-63.

    Villanova

  • With the win Villanova reached its first ever trip to the Sweet 16 and is 27-5 on the season.
  • Junior Courtney Mix is celebrating her 21st birthday tonight.
  • It took 55:38 before the Wildcats attempted their first free throws of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. Senior Katie Davis ended the drought by hitting two from the charity stripe with 4:22 remaining in the first half.
  • Villanova is 6-0 on the neutral courts, 4-1 against the Atlantic 10 and 19-1 when leading at the half.
  • Senior Katie Davis poured in 11 points in the first half and 24 on the game, making it 14 of the last 16 games that she has scored in double figures.
  • Villanova has shot below 40 percent from the field in the first half of the last three games and four of the last five. Nova is shooting .407 from the field on the season.
  • Nova has made at least one three pointer in 178 contests, dating back to Jan. 25, 1997.
  • Trish Juhline made 22 consecutive free throws, dating back to Feb. 22 at Virginia Tech, before missing the front end of a one-and-one with 2:15 to play. Juhline rebounded to her sink her next two free throws on the following possession and ended the night 5-7 at the free throw line.
  • Katie Davis has scored 20 plus points in ten games this season.
  • Jennifer Hilgenberg has scored 22 points off the bench in the 2003 tourney. Her 14 points tonight was career-high.
  • Villanova scored on 13 of 14 possessions, including eight three pointers, to answer a 4-0 run at the beginning of the second half by George Washington. The long range bombing was the catalyst behind a 33-19 run by the Wildcats that spanned 10:17. During that run Davis and Juhline each hit three from behind the arc, while Hilgenberg dropped in two.
  • Tonight marked the 13th time that Villanova has reached double-digits in three pointers made.
  • Trish Juhline moved up two spots on the Villanova career-scoring list to No. 3. She has now scored 1636 points in her career and is unlikely to reach No.2 Nancy Bernhardt (1980-84) who stands at 2,018.
  • Villanova hit eight three-pointers in the second half, which is its fifth highest output in a half this season.

    George Washington

  • George Washington ends the season with a 25-7 record.
  • GW is 2-7 when trailing at halftime, 2-1 on neutral courts, 1-2 on Tuesday's and 1-3 against the Big East.
  • GW had zero offensive rebounds in the first half for the second consecutive game.
  • GW grabbed three offensive boards in the first four minutes of the second half, equaling its game total from the Colonials NCAA first round game with Oklahoma. GW ended the game with six offensive boards.
  • GW went on a short 4-0 run to start the second half and tie the game. The run was answered by Villanova who scored on 13 of 14 possessions, which included eight three pointers, for a 33-19 run. Nova's run began with 16:07 remaining and spanned 10:17.
  • George Washington is 0-5 against No. 2 seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Ugo Oha, who is GW's second leading scorer with 15.4 points per game, had just four points at the half but answered in the second session with 17 for 21 on the game.
  • GW has had three players score in the double-digits in 22 games this season.
  • The technical called on GW Head Coach Joe McKeown was his first of the season and the third called on the Colonials.
  • Cathy Joens has four assists on the night, giving her 102 on the season. Joens was the fourth Colonial to reach at least 100 assists this season.
