NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team concluded its first round of the spring season in second place at the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii on Wednesday. The Sooners finished the day with a team score of 281 (+1), only five strokes behind tournament leader TCU. With a total of 26 teams in the tournament, half the teams competed on the Kings Course (par 72, 7,074) and the other half, including the Sooners, competed on the Beach Course (par 70, 6,566).

OU was led by senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Jim Renner (Plainville, Mass.), who each fired opening rounds of 69 (-1), putting them in a tie for sixth place. Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) carded a first-round score of 72 (+1) and is tied for 21st place.

One shot behind Manor is junior Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.), who shot an opening round 72 (+2) and is tied for 29th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners is junior Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) who finished with a score of 75 (+5).

The Sooners begin second-round action Thursday morning.
