Tamayo Leads OU To Victory Over Missouri In Home Opener

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team was victorious in their 2001 home opener defeating Missouri, 194.275-191.875, in a Big 12 gymnastics dual meet Sunday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.

No. 18 OU (10-4, 2-2 Big 12) swept the individual titles and received a stellar performance from Kasie Tamayo. The freshman won the all-around (39.400) as well as the uneven parallel bars (9.925) and the balance beam (9.900). Tamayo's AA and bars victories were the first of her career.

Sophomore Leticia Ishii claimed first place on the vault with a 9.825 and the floor exercise, finishing with a 9.850. Sophomore Leah Mueller tied Ishii on the vault to claim her sixth vault title on the sesaon.

Missouri fell to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference

The two teams duel again next Sunday at 2 p.m. in Columbia, Missouri.
