Wrestling Wins Fourth Consecutive Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic Title

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team garnered its fourth consecutive team title at the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic with a score of 183.5. In addition to five individual titles and one runner-up Oklahoma also placed wrestlers in all 10 weight classes .

Oklahoma placed both wrestlers in the 125 pound class. Senior Bo Maynes pinned Shawn Sehar of Rutgers at the 4:37 minute mark to advance to the finals, where he was eventually decisioned in overtime by Cleveland State's Rocco Mansueto. Senior Brad Knecht placed sixth after a loss to Sehar by major decision (13-2).

The Sooners claimed the 133 pound title when third-ranked senior Witt Durden decisioned Cleveland State's Phillip Mansueto, 3-2. Junior Daniel Caruthers took fifth place with a 5-3 decision over Dan Roberts of Brockport.

Returning All-American Nate Parker garnered the 141 pound crown after recording three pins and a major decision in the finals (10-2, Jeff Ratliff of Ohio State).

A sixth place finish at 149 pounds by sophomore Matt Grice was highlighted by a pin of Jacob Warner of Bloomburg at 1:55 and a technical fall in the first round against Todd Feinkind of Buffalo, 19-2.

Junior Rafael Maturino placed fourth in the 157 pound weight class behind two strong major decisions, while sophomore Wes Roberts decisioned Army's Ron Schroeder, 10-5, to take third place at 165 pounds.

Oklahoma claimed the next three titles with wins by sophomore E.K. Waldhaus at 174 pounds (3-1 decision over Ohio State's Blake Kaplan), senior Josh Lambrecht at 184 pounds (major decisioned Gerald Harris of Cleveland State, 12-2) and senior Tom Grossman at 197 pounds (decisioned Anlon Talamantes of Ohio State, 11-9).

Oklahoma's junior heavyweight Erin Helvey placed sixth after an overtime loss to Army's Bo Reynolds, 2-1.

Oklahoma will hit the mat again Wednesday, Nov. 20, when they host Missouri Valley in the Howard McCasland Field House at 7 p.m.
