OU Men's Golf Finishes 11th At William H. Tucker Intercollegiate

- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team closed out its first tournament of the 2002-03 season by finishing in 11th place at the 18-team William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday. OU shot a final-round 305 and finished the tournament with a total score of 887 (+23). New Mexico, the host school, posted an even-par 864 to win the tournament. UNLV (869) and Arizona (874) finished second and third, respectively.

Junior Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) led the Sooners by tying for 14th place. Flores shot a final-round two-over-par 75 on Saturday for a total of 218 (+3).

Freshman Brodie Flanders (Vancouver, B.C.) followed up identical rounds of 73 on Friday with a final-round 76 to tie for 31st in his first tournament as a Sooner.

Senior Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) tied for 38th by finishing with a final score of 223 (+7). Manor's 70 in the second round was the low single-round score of the tournament for the Sooners. Two shots behind Manor was fellow senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas), who finished tied for 49th with a total of 225 (+9). Freshmen Robert Stone (Dallas, Texas) and Jim Renner (Plainville, Mass.) gained valuable experience in their first starts, tying for 83rd and 89th, respectively.

The Sooners, ranked 21st nationally by GolfWorld, continue their fall schedule on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 16-17) as they host the Sooner Invitational at the Westin Stonebriar Resort in Frisco, Texas. The format for the tournament includes 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The field for the Sooner Invitational includes: BYU, Houston, New Mexico, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, SMU, Southern Cal, TCU and Texas.
