IRVING, Texas – Two Sooners earned two of the final Big 12 weekly awards for 2011, announced by the conference Tuesday, Natasha Kelley was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week while freshman Madison Mooring was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for March 15 along with Nebraska freshman Jamie Schleppenbach.
The awards were the second weekly honors this year for both Kelley and Mooring. Kelley was also named the Event Specialist of the Week on Feb. 15, while Mooring was the Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 25.
Kelley won both the bars and beam titles while Mooring won a share of the vault title last Friday, helping the Sooners clinch their third perfect regular season in four years with a win over Michigan State.
Kelley posted a 9.9 on beam and a 9.875 on bars to win both titles, while added a 9.85 on vault to finish second on the event.
Kelley ended the regular season by scoring a 9.825 or higher on 21 of her last 22 routines.
Kelley is currently ranked in the top 10 nationally on both bars and beam and is ranked No. 24 on vault. The redshirt-sophomore is the top-ranked gymnast on bars in the Big 12 and is second on beam behind teammate Megan Ferguson.
Kelley has hit 11 of 11 beam routines this year and has scored at least a 9.825 in all 11 performances.
Mooring earned the award after setting two career-highs against the Spartans last Friday.
Mooring won a share of the vault title with a career-high 9.875 against Michigan State. Mooring also added a career-high 9.85 on floor to finish fourth overall.
Mooring placed second on beam with a 9.875, the freshman’s second-best score on the event behind her 9.95 performance at TWU on Jan. 23.
