Sooner Wrestling Prepares For Third Bedlam Battle

NORMAN, Okla. - The 11th-ranked Oklahoma wrestling team (12-7) will once again face the top-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (14-0) in Stillwater, Okla., on Sunday at 2 p.m. Sunday's dual will take place inside Gallagher-Iba Arena and will mark the 145th time that the Sooners and Cowboys have met for the Bank of Oklahoma Bedlam Series presented by the Oklahoma Ford Dealers. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series 112-24-9. This weeks match will feature six matches with wrestlers ranked in the top-20.

Once again, Oklahoma freshman Teyon Ware (Big 12 Wrestler of the Week) will have one of the most anticipated matches of the dual. Ware (24-4), who is ranked second in the nation at 141 pounds, will battle Oklahoma State's top-ranked Zack Esposito (20-1). Ware and Esposito have split the two previous matchups. No. 6 Sooner Bo Maynes (29-5) will face No. 9 Skyler Holman (16-7) at 125 pounds. Maynes is 2-0 against Holman. Oklahoma will send No. 4 Robbie Waller (25-5) up against second-ranked Cowboy Chris Pendleton (20-1) at 174 pounds. Pendleton is 2-0 against Waller.

Senior Witt Durden (18-3), who is ranked sixth, will wrestle the defending NCAA champion, JOhnny Thonpson, at 133 pounds. Thompson (19-2) is flawless (8-0) when facing Durden. The other two ranked matches will pit Oklahoma's third-ranked Josh Lambrecht (16-2) against No. 12 Jake Rosholt (13-8) at 184 pounds and No. 19 Tom Grossman (21-6) against Oklahoma State's third-ranked Muhammed Lawal (20-3) at 197 pounds.

Oklahoma will send unranked wrestlers in at 157, 165 and heavyweight to battle second and third ranked Cowboys. Junior Rafael Maturino (18-15) will challenge No. 3 Shane Roller (21-3) in the 157 pound contest. At 165 pounds, the Sooners will send sophomore Wes Roberts (15-14) to take on No. 2 Tyrone Lewis (19-0). When the heavyweights take the mat, OU's Jake Hager (2-5) will face No. 18 Willie Gruenwald (11-11). The only match of the day to feature two unranked wrestlers will come at 149 pounds when Sooner Danny Rubenstein (6-13) grapples Kevin Ward (4-1).
