NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo has announced the signing of Kierra Holst of Coppell, Texas, to a national-letter-of-intent. Holst will join the Sooners for the 2012 season.
“This is the tallest, most physical class we’ve signed since I’ve been at Oklahoma,” Restrepo said. “We’re very excited for the opportunity to teach these young ladies and continue the tradition we’ve established. Kierra adds some depth to our middle blocker position. At 6-4, she’s lean and has long arms. She’s great at blocking and has very good hitting mechanics.”
Holst prepped at Coppell (Texas) High School and earned three varsity letters playing middle blocker and right side for the Cowgirls. She led the team to the 2011 Texas 5A state championship, an event were she was named most valuable player. She also earned first team all-district honors this year and was the district’s blocker of the year. Holst hit .380 as a senior, registering 304 kills, 27 aces and 151 total blocks. She was named to the All-Texas second team and to Prep Volleyball’s Senior Ace list. Holst also earned VYPE’s most valuable player honors for the Greater Dallas area.
The 2011 team captain earned all-tournament team honors at the 2011 Allen Tournament and was named All-Texas special recognition in 2010. Holst earned Academic All-District honors in 2010 and 2009.
Holst won the 2011 USA Volleyball 17s US American Division National Championship with the Instinct Volleyball Club and earned all-tournament team honors at the event. She participated in the 2011 USA Volleyball Youth Girls National Training Team.
“Oklahoma has a beautiful campus with great academic options,” Holst said. “They also have an amazing volleyball program.”
The daughter of Brett Holst and Tammy Boock-Holst, Holst plans to major in chemistry and secondary education.
