Oklahoma Head Coach Jeff Capel
Opening comment:
“It’s a really good win for us against an Iowa State team that played terrifi c today. I thought it was the best that Diante Garrett played.  He put a lot of pressure on us by driving and kicking, and getting to the basket. I have so much respect for Craig Brackins, and how good he is. I’ve been telling people since before the season started about how talented he is.”

On the game:
“We were able to get some stops in the second half. We switched to a zone late, and I thought that was effective for us. It was a terrific crowd, but I’m really proud of our guys for showing some character and toughness down the stretch. I think Iowa State has been good at home. They have a lot more confidence at home and they are very well-coached, very fundamentally sound.”

Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin
On Iowa State:
“We knew they were a tough team. We made a lot of mistakes early and late in the game. You have to give them credit, they played really well. I feel like my points are a tribute to how well the guards were playing, especially Willie Warren. They did a great job and it kind of made my job easy, took a lot of pressure off me."

Iowa State Head Coach Greg McDermott
On the game:
“I’m proud of my team’s effort and, for the most part, their execution. That was a talented team, and we played toe-to-toe with them after getting punched in the mouth. We battled back after the tie and played 17 minutes even with them. The second half shows the direction we’re moving.”

On Willie Warren:
“We knew Willie Warren could shoot, but I didn’t respect his range. The level of skill he was shooting with is the reason Oklahoma is going to be number two when we wake up tomorrow morning. Blake Griffin is a phenomenal player, but they have a wonderful supporting cast as well.”

On Blake Griffin:
“Griffin made a couple of really tough plays, and the backbreaker was that fadeaway shot. That’s what All-Americans do. I told the guys that there have been several games where Griffi n has seven or eight points at the half, then ends up with 27 for the game.”

“Jamie Vanderbeken is a spark plug offensively, but I think Justin Hamilton did a really good job and was responsible for what happened to Griffin in the first half.”

Iowa State guard Craig Brackins
On the game:
“I didn’t think we played that bad, but we have to play 40 minutes instead of 37. All-in-all it was a great effort but if we fix some of those little things we’ll be good. We played with a lot more confidence today. Today shows that when we play with confidence we will be okay.”

On Blake Griffin:
“We were locked in on the double-team in the fi rst half. He started reading it better in the second half and he is really great against the double-team. He’s a great player and great players make great plays.”

Iowa State guard Diante Garrett:
On his game:
“I’ve been struggling as of late. I had a meeting with Coach McDermott and he told me to keep my head up and keep playing. I kept my head up and was ready to play. That’s my game, getting in the paint and finding players or creating for myself.”

“We had a couple defensive breakdowns and they hit a couple tough shots. We will be able to look back on this game and learn from what we did.”
