NORMAL, Ill. -- The Oklahoma women’s golf team is tied for 11th place at the NCAA Central Regional in Normal, Ill., after recording a first-round 311 (+27). In a tie for the tournament lead, Vanderbilt (No. 1 seed) and New Mexico (No. 2 seed) each carded a 298 (+14) in opening-round play.
Senior Lisa Meldrum, April’s Big 12 Golfer of the Month, and sophomore Amparo Gala each shot a five-over-par 76 in first-round action and are tied for 23rd. Senior Hope Edge turned in a seven-over-par 78 and is tied for 46th while junior Emily Milberger is tied for 70th after carding a first-round 81 (+10). Freshman Jaclyn Stelzer recorded an 85 (+14) and is tied for 102nd heading into second-round play.
The tournament is being played at the 6,500-yard, par-71 University Golf Course. Round-two action will be played Friday with the final 18 holes being played Saturday. The top eight teams qualify to play at the NCAA Championships, May 18-21 in Opelika, Ala.
