Terry, Sooners Honored by NWCA

NORMAN, Okla. -- The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced Sooner Kyle Terry to its annual Division I All-Academic team Tuesday morning for the 2009-10 season. Additionally, Oklahoma earned 17th on the All-Academic Team standings with a combined 3.0564 GPA.

OU’s team ranking was the second-best among Big 12 schools. Nebraska (3.2824 GPA) earned third overall.

It marked Terry’s second-straight NWCA academic honor. The Health and Exercise Science major earned his second-straight Big 12 title this season wrestling at 149 pounds and went on to place third at the NCAA Championships.

The 2010 All-American ended his senior campaign with a 31-3 overall record, including a perfect 16-0 in dual action.

To be considered for the award a wrestler must have accumulated a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher, been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule. Also, one can be honored for the All-Academic team with a 3.0 GPA and achieved All-American status this past season.
