OU Seeks Tourney Title in Ardmore

ARDMORE, Okla. The OU men’s golf squad closes out the regular season Saturday as it hosts the 16th annual Maxwell at the par-70, 6453-yard Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.  

The 54-hole event will feature a field of 10 teams that includes Big Ten champion Michigan State, Big 12 champ Oklahoma State, Conference USA title holder Tulsa and Oklahoma City Univ., who was recently crowned the NAIA Region VII champion.

The tournament is slated to begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with second-round action to start at 2:15 p.m. Sunday’s final round will start at 8 a.m.

Oklahoma begins its opening round on No. 12 and will start on the third hole during the afternoon round.

The Sooners are seeking their first Maxwell tournament title after finishing third last year.  OU finished second in both 1993 and 1996.

Freshman Ben Blundell, Academic All-Big 12 Phillip Bryan, Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte, Nick Sheedy and J.J. Wood make up the Sooners starting five.

The talented freshmen trio of Eric Durbin, Brandon Pelletier and Tyler Rody will compete as individuals.
