TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Sooner soccer team’s two-game winning streak ended on Friday night against Arizona State at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. OU trailed 1-0 at halftime, but eventually fell 3-0 in its first game of the Sun Devil Desert Classic.

The loss dropped the Sooners’ overall record to 3-4, while Arizona State improved to 3-2.

ASU scored its first goal in the fifth minute and then tacked on two more in the first 15 minutes of the second half.   The shutout came after the Sooners had seven goals in the last two games.

"I am disappointed with our lack of consistency,” said OU Head Coach Nicole Nelson.  “ASU was more willing to embrace the physical aspect of the game tonight and deserved to win the game."

The Sooners trailed the overall shot count, 11-7, but OU had more shots on goal with a 6-5 advantage, led by Dria Hampton and Kelsey Kraft with two apiece. However, ASU goalkeeper Alyssa Gilmore made six saves in the contest.

OU and ASU have met once previously in 2004. The Sooners won that game, 1-0, in Tempe on Sept. 19.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, OU faces Arizona at 1 p.m. CT. in Tempe, Ariz. Arizona (0-5) lost 1-0 on Friday afternoon in game one of the Sun Devil Desert Classic against Missouri.

The Sooners and Wildcats have meet once back in 2002. OU won that game, 2-0, in Norman on Sept. 15.
