Sooner gymnast and broadcast journalism major Candace Cindell will address a variety of topics throughout the year to give OU fans a closer glimpse into the Oklahoma gymnastics program.  After an undefeated regular season (18-0) in 2008, the squad clinched the Big 12 title en route to an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships - tying a program best.

This week's installment features senior Haley DeProspero who lets fans in on some exciting news inside and outside of the gym.

  Entry No. 1 | Friday, June 20

Cindell - You are majoring in Zoology and just completed the MCAT, how was that?
DeProspero - "It was pretty brutal.  It's just as bad as everyone says it is.  It was seven hours long, so I'm glad that is over."

How long did you spend studying for that and how do you think you did?
DeProspero - "I started studying in December and once our season was over, I got to start REALLY studying...  It's hard to tell how well I did, but I am cautiously optimistic."

You recently had knee surgery, how did that go?
DeProspero - "It went really well. I had been having problems all of last season, so the doctor is hopeful that it will feel a lot better and everything should be fine."

So right now are you working on rehab or finally starting to work on some skills again?
DeProspero - "I'm doing a little bit of both.  A little bit of bars, lots of rehab and lots of conditioning.  The surgery was pretty recent, so I'm not running or doing any kind of leg stuff yet."

As a senior, how do you plan on leading the team in 2009?
DeProspero - "I think it is really important to lead by example.  I think people respond better to that than someone telling you to do this or do that."

What are your personal goals for yourself?
DeProspero - "I had a fantastic year last year and was really happy with it. (Cindell interjects - "You did hit 100% of your routines on beam, so that's great.") I felt that preparation wise last season, we were in great shape heading into the year and I'm sure we will do that again.  I'm so excited about the potential of this team."

I hear through the grapevine that you just got engaged to former OU gymnast Jonathan Horton. How did he pop the question?
DeProspero - "It's funny, because no one sees him as a romantic guy but he did a really good job.  I got to his house in Houston and had no idea. There were little chocolate kisses all over the floor leading to his room. I got to his door and there was a sign that said, now that I have kissed the ground that you walk on and shown you how much I love you, there is only one more question to ask.  So I opened the door, and was of course shaking by this point, and it said "marry me" in candles and there were flowers everywhere.  He got down on one knee, and the rest is history.  He did a great job."

Speaking of Jon, talk a little about the 2008 Olympics
DeProspero - "I am so excited because he has worked so hard.  He finished second at the USA Championships and depending on how he finishes at the U.S. trials, it is looking very good for him."

Fast Five - Pick one or the other without thinking about why.
Barbie or Hot Wheels: Hot Wheels
Flying or Invisibility: Flying
Comedy or Horror: Comedy
Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner: Breakfast
