NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 19 University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will face five other nationally ranked competitors at the NCAA South Central Regional on Saturday, April 7, in Lincoln, Neb. This year's trip to postseason competition marks the fourth year in a row the Sooners have advanced to the regionals.

Oklahoma (16-6) will face No. 10 Penn State, No. 15 Washington, No. 23 Arizona, No. 25 Illinois State and the host team, third-ranked and conference rival Nebraska. OU and the Huskers competed last Saturday at the Big 12 Championships in Norman with Nebraska winning and the Sooners finishing third.

The Sooners are led by five All-Big 12 competitors: freshmen Carla DeMartini and Kasie Tamayo, sophomores Patrica Aoki and Leticia Ishii, and junior Mariana Goncalves.

This 2001 season marks the final year for Coach Becky Switzer, who is retiring after 18 years at the helm. Switzer is currently 222-100 as head coach for Oklahoma. This year, Switzer is co-head coach with Steve Nunno, who will take over the reins next year. Switzer and Nunno were named 2001 Big 12 Co-Head Coaches of the Year.
