NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team claimed fourth place at the Verizon "Mo" Morial Invitational, which was held at the Briarcrest Country Club in Bryan, Texas, on Monday and Tuesday. The Sooners began today in seventh place and battled back to overtake Baylor, Indiana, Missouri and Texas A&M. Sixth-ranked Ohio State claimed the tournament title by 14 strokes. The tournament was condensed to 18 holes each day due to weather and course conditions.
Sophomore Lisa Meldrum carded a 154 for a fifth-place finish, while junior Allison Johnson shot a 159 to tie for 17th place. Senior Wendy Martin turned in scores of 81 and 82 to finish in 36th place. Sophomore Hope Edge carded a 166 to tie for 48th and senior Jennifer Tannehill shot a 171 for a 70th-place finish.
Oklahoma will resume tournament action at the 2002 Pioneer Electronics Bruin Classic in Temecula, Calif., on March 11-12.
