SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - After dropping the first set 25-19, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team rallied back to defeat tournament host Missouri State, 3-1, at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational. The Sooners (8-3) won the final three sets -23, -27, -26.
Junior Suzy Boulavsky led the Sooner offense once again, dropping 14 kills as OU extended its winning streak to four straight. Junior Brianne Barker added another double-double, this time with 47 assists and 14 digs. Barker also matched her career best with five block assists.
Senior Sarah Freudenrich added 12 kills and connected for a .304 hitting percentage. She also added one block solo and seven block assists. Freudenrich was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Four Sooners registered double-digit digs. In addition to Barker, freshman Eden Williams added a season-high 14 digs, while junior Caitlin Higgins and Maria Fernanda had 12 each. Freshman Sallie McLaurin continued her stellar play at the net, recorded one block solo and three assists. Fernanda and McLaurin were also named to the all-tournament team.
Christine McCartney led Missouri State with 16 kills. Cara Hackmann added 24 digs for the Bears.
Boulavsky averaged 3.50 kills per set during the two-day event. Freudenrich hit .407, connecting on 28 of her 54 total attempts. Fernanda averaged 4.83 digs per set, while Barker averaged 10.92 assists. McLaurin led the team in blocks with three block solos and 17 block assists, an average of 1.67 per set.
Oklahoma opens conference play Wednesday evening at Colorado.
