NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma Track and Field program hosts its final home meet of the 2011 indoor season Saturday as athletes from around the area compete in the Sooner Invitational. With free admission inside Oklahoma’s Mosier Indoor Facility, action at the event is slated to begin at 10 a.m. with running events scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
With the conference championship season quickly approaching, athletes will use the event as a final tune-up in their conference races including next week’s Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship in Lincoln, Neb.
A number of ranked athletes will be competing Saturday with the throws events leading the way. Those in attendance will see two of the nation’s top five female athletes in the shot put as Oklahoma’s Karen Shump and Tia Brooks square off. On the men’s side, K.P. Singh is ranked No. 6 nationally in the weight throw for the Sooners.
There will eight defending champion’s in Saturday’s field of competitors including OU’s Sarah Pappas (pole vault) and K.P. Singh (weight throw).
