NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma golfer Allison Johnson was selected to compete for the United States in the 2002 World University Golf Championships games August 9-11 in Taipei, Taiwan. The Amarillo native was selected as one of only five college athletes to participate. Johnson will compete on a three member team, while the two other participants will be individuals.
"I am very excited about this opportunity," said Johnson. This is my chance to represent the University of Oklahoma and the United States at the same time. This is truly an opportunity that I can't pass up.
Johnson has been a integral part of the Sooners bid to the NCAA Championships this year. The junior has placed in the top 20 of every tournament this season. She led the Sooners in four of the eight spring tournaments. She also recorded her career low round (68) at the UCLA Bruin Invitational. Johnson has been selected second-team All-Big 12 for the past two years. During her sophomre campaign she recorded three second place finishes and shaved one and a half off her previous stroke average. Johnson will be making her first trip to the NCAA Championships May 21-24.
