Norman, Okla. - The 21st-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team shot a final-round score of 285 to finish in fifth place at the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii. The Sooners carded an overall score of 913 (+57) and finished well ahead of several nationally ranked teams in the 24-team field including No. 2 Georgia Tech (+67), No. 10 USC (+58), No. 12 San Diego State (+84) and No. 15 BYU (+60). The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns took home the team championship with a final score of 893 (+37).

"I was proud of the way our team performed today," said OU Coach Jim Ragan. "We learned a lot and hung in there and had a respectable finish."

Junior Cody Freeman fired a final-round score of 68 to place sixth with a total of 222 (+8). It was the second time this season Freeman led the Sooners and his second top-10 finish of the year. Sophomore Matt Cohn continued his streak of top-20 finishes to six this season by tying for 19th after carding a final round of 70 and an overall score of 227 (+13).

"I thought Cody Freeman played outstanding," said Ragan. "He got under par quickly today and stayed that way for the rest of the tournament. Matt Cohn played exceptionally well. He fought back and was able to get his score under par. I was also pleased with our other players performances, so overall it was a good start for us."

Junior J.D. Robertson and freshman Martin Flores each tied for 43rd with final scores of 233 (+19). Flores saved his best round for last shooting a final-round 73 while Robertson also improved on his previous performances with a 74.
