NORMAN, Okla. - In its second home meet of the season, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team (6-3) defeated No. 13 Florida (6-5) 195.475 to 193.925 at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Senior Mariana Goncalves won the all-around with a season-high 39.575, while finishing first in the uneven bars (9.950) and floor exercise (9.925). She was also second on the vault (9.900) and balance beam (9.800). Sophomore Kasie Tamayo, who was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, placed second in the all-around with a 39.400, while winning the balance beam (9.850). She was also third on the floor exercise (9.900) and uneven bars (9.875)) and fourth on the vault (9.775).
"This was a big win for us," said OU head coach Steve Nunno. "Florida is a great team and they proved that tonight. The Gators have been a perennial powerhouse since I have been involved with gymnastics and are usually ranked in the top eight. But we've got a team with a lot of heart and a team that can pull it out when it really counts."
Other notables for the Sooners were junior Leticia Ishii, who finished second on the uneven bars with a season-high 9.875. In addition, sophomore Leah Mueller tied for second on the vault, with Goncalves, a season-high 9.875 and placed fifth on the uneven bars with a 9.800.
"We really appreciated the fans who came out to see us," said Nunno. "It's always great to compete in front of a home crowd."
The Sooners are back in action on Friday, Feb. 15, against Boise State in Boise, Idaho. Meet time is set for 8 p.m.
