NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men’s track and field team maintained its national ranking coming in at No. 24 in the latest rankings from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Sooners remained third in the Midwest region, while the OU women were ranked No. 7 in the region.
The Sooners had 10 individuals and one relay ranked in the latest standings. The distance medley relay team of Eric Harasyn, Ethan Baker, Frezer Legesse and Riley Masters holds the No. 4 spot in the event, while Malcolm Anderson’s No. 8 ranking in the 60-meter hurdles is OU’s only other top 10 ranking.
The men’s distance group makes up the remainder of the rankings, including George Alex in the mile (14) and 3,000-meter run (17), Legesse in the mile (17), Harasyn in the mile (18), Masters in the mile (31) and 3,000-meter run (25), Bill Kogel in the 3,000- (30) and 5,000-meter (31) runs and Kevin Williams in the 5,000-meter run (19).
In addition to the nationally-ranked individuals, OU has two men ranked regionally in the 400-meter dash as Jamel Wood comes in at No. 5 and Ethan Baker at No. 7. The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Baker, Michael Ervin, Evan Pierson and Wood is fifth.
OU’s women are seventh in the Midwest region and rank No. 33 nationally. Tia Brooks continues to lead the nation with her top mark of 60 feet, eighth inches in the women’s shot put. Karen Shump (13) and Bailey Wagner (24) are also ranked in the event. Jessica Engel is 29th in the 3,000-meter run, and Shawna Anderson is 30th in the 60-meter dash.
On the regional level, Kristen Rice is third in the high jump and Katie Adair is eighth in the pole vault. Engel is sixth in the 5,000-meter run, while Sherine Wells is fourth in the 60-meter dash. The distance medley relay team of Molly Ferguson, Shelleyeka Rolle, Natalie Crain and Kelsey Brown turned in the fifth fastest time in the event in the region this year this past weekend at the Big 12 Championship.
