Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma senior leftfielder and 2001 All-American Greg Dobbs garnered first-team honors on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Midwest All-Region Team as released by the association Thursday afternoon. Dobbs' selection, which qualifies him for consideration for ABCA All-American honors, was one of 14 Big 12 Conference student-athletes named to the 28-member squad. The team was voted on by the head coaches at the 22 regional member institutions.

The Moreno Valley, Calif., native capped off a sensational senior season with the Sooners by batting .428 with 25 doubles, 10 home runs and 62 RBIs. Designated a tri-captain at the beginning of the season, Dobbs also led the squad offensively in nine categories and finished in the top five of four single-season school records.

Dobbs made his name known on the national scene this year as well. During the season, he was recognized as the conference Player of the Week and the NCBWA National Player of the Week for the same time period for a week-long performance in which he batted .625 and belted four home runs in as many games. In the latest NCAA statistics, Dobbs is tied for 14th in the nation in batting average and tied for 19th in doubles. He currently ranks in the top five in the conference in seven overall offensive categories including leading the league in batting average, hits and doubles. Dobbs also completed the season in the top five of seven offensive categories in Big 12 games only.

Dobbs' other postseason honors include Collegiate Baseball second-team All-America, Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year and first-team outfielder, Phillips 66 Big 12 All-Tournament Team and Dallas Morning News Big 12 Transfer of the Year and first-team outfielder.
