NORMAN, Okla. -- The fourth-ranked Oklahoma men's gymnastics team returns to McCasland Field House for the home opener Saturday, Jan. 22, for a match up with eighth-ranked Ohio State at 7 p.m.

Last season, OU posted its third highest score of the 2010 season (359.250) to defeat Ohio State in Columbus.
Oklahoma claimed four of the six team event titles with wins on floor (62.550), vault (63.950), parallel bars (58.200) and high bar (57.550).

Saturday's matchup marks "Cleveland Elementary Night. " The event is part of a "Partners in Education" program developed by Oklahoma Head Coach Mark Williams and Cleveland Elementary music teacher Regina Bell.

The OU Athletics Marketing Department has some special events planned for "Cleveland Elementary Night". Several lucky students will win the opportunity to serve as junior judges, score flashers, march-in leaders, junior PA announcer and award presenters at the meet. One Cleveland student will also perform the national anthem.

Opponent Preview

The Ohio State men's gymnastics team began the 2011 season by competing in the Windy City Invitational and finished fourth with a 339.800.

Wynn, the 2010 Big Ten and NCAA champion on rings, claimed the event title with a 15.8 score. Echard, a 2009 All-American, won pommel horse with a meet-high 15.4, while Treleaven tied for first place with a 15.9 score in his first collegiate competition as a Buckeye.

Sophomore Jacob Dalton claimed the fourth all-around title of his career with a score of 88.500, as the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team won its 12th straight Rock Mountain Open title.

The Sooners claimed five of the six team event titles on the night winning floor (57.300), rings (57.600), vault (63.800), parallel bars (57.400) and high bar (55.600). It marks the fifth time Oklahoma claimed at least six events at the Rocky Mountain Open.

The three-time All-American (all-around, floor, vault) highlighted the meet by posting a
RMO record high on parallel bars with a score of 15.100.

The meet was highlighted by two Sooners that posted RMO record highs with Legendre's 16.400 on vault and Dalton's 15.100 on parallel bars.

Four current Sooners, including Dalton (high bar parallel bars), Legendre (floor, vault, allaround), Jackson (rings) and Alex Naddour (pommel horse) hold each of the event records for the Rocky Mountain Open.


Two members of the 2010 U.S. World Championship Team will be competing against each other as Oklahoma and Ohio State square off this Saturday. OU's Steven Legendre and Ohio State's Brandon Wynn were teammates this summers, as both helped the U.S. team place fourth at the World Championships.


Half of Team USA at the 2010 World Championships was represented by the Sooner program. Current OU Steven Legendre and former Sooners Jonathan Horton and Chris Brooks competed in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Current OU Head Coach Mark Williams and former Sooner gymnast Tom Meadows also represented Team USA as individual coaches for the Sooner gymnasts. Horton won the bronze medal in the all-around, while Brooks and Legendre finish in the top eight in high bar and floor, respectively.

The Sooners will participate in eight regular season meets and face five opponents that competed at the 2010 NCAA Championship final. OU will also host three home meets at the Howard McCasland Field House, highlighted by matchups with California Illinois and Penn State.

The 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships will be hosted by Air Force Academy on April 2, while the NCAA Championships will be hosted by Ohio State on April 14 -16.

In the last 11 years, the OU men's gymnastics program has been ranked in the top three of the preseason coaches poll every season. Six of the 11 years the Sooners have been positioned at the top of the poll.

For the 2011 season head coach Mark Williams signed Presten Ellsworth as a part of the 2010 signing class.

Hometown: Allen, Texas
High School: Allen | Club: WOGA

A native of Allen, Texas, Ellsworth was a member of the USA Junior National Team for the 2005-06 season and is coached by Sergei Pakanich, at WOGA Gymnastics. In 2009, Ellsworth competed at the Men's Junior Olympic National Championships where he finished third on floor and 11th in the all-around and also competed at the Visa Championships.

In 2008, he also competed in Men's Junior Olympic National Championships and Visa Championships finishing seventh all-around in both events.

Seniors Ian Jackson and Steven Legendre were named co-captains for the 2011 season by head coach Mark Williams. Both were a part of the Sooners 2008 National Championship squad and have received national honors for their effort.
