Sooners Claim 11th in Puerto Rico

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team concluded action in its first tournament of the spring Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 11th place at the 16-team Lady Puerto Rico Classic.  The Sooners carded a final-round 309 and wound up just two strokes outside of the top 10.

Senior Kendall Dye, who shot a final-round 80, totaled 228 over the 54-hole event to tie for 16th place.  It marked her 16th career top-20 finish.

Ellen Mueller shot a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday to climb her way to a tie for 24th  place.  The sophomore progressed from a first-round position of 67th to a second-round position of 39th before ending in the top 25.  Senior Staci Smoot carded an 80 on Tuesday, ending in a tie for 39th.

Juniors Andrea Sellmeyer and Chelsea Collins turned in their best performances of the tournament in the third round.  Sellmeyer fired an 81 to finish in 79th place while Collins carded a 76 to finish tied for 85th.

Freshman Brooke Collins, Chelsey Collins' sister, played as an individual and finished in a tie for 79th place.

The Sooners will tee it up next at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., on Feb. 16-17.
