Sooners Ranked in USTFCCCA Top 25

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men’s and women’s track and field teams maintained top 25 rankings in the final regular season poll released Tuesday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. OU’s women were No. 16 and moved up to No. 4 in the Midwest Region, while OU’s men were No. 23 nationally and remained second in the region.

Tia Brooks extended her program record in the women's shot put on April 25 with the best mark in the nation this year. Brooks won the event at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, lengthening her record to 60 feet, seven and a quarter inches on her final attempt. The mark set a Drake Relays record. She met the Olympic A standard with the throw and defended her 2011 title at the meet.

The mark is the third best by an American this year and 11th best throw in the world. It’s the 10th best throw ever by a collegian and she ranks sixth on the NCAA all-time list in the event with the mark. She won her first Big 12 outdoor title in the event this past weekend.

Brittany Borman overtook the No. 1 spot in the javelin after her win in the women's javelin throw at the Sun Angel Classic on April 5. Borman's mark of 194-11 is an Oklahoma program record. The NCAA-leading throw set a Sun Angel Stadium facility and meet record. The throw is the second best by an American this year and ranks 26th on the world list this year.

The mark ranks Borman sixth on the United States all-time outdoor list and ranks her seventh on the collegiate list. Amongst American collegiate women, Borman is fifth. The throw also meets the Olympic B standard for the event. Borman is also ninth in the discus with her best mark of 183-0 coming on April 14 at the John Jacobs Invitational. Borman repeated as the Big 12 javelin champion this past weekend and finished fifth in the discus.

Alex Acker moved into the top 10 nationally in the pole vault with her performance on May 4. Acker took third over at the Arkansas Twilight, extending her program record to 14-1.25. The mark is tied for the ninth best in the nation this year. She was second in the event at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship. Ti'Anca Mock is ninth in the women's long jump with a season's best wind-aided mark of 21-6 on March 28 at the Texas Relays. Mock was third at the conference meet.

Bill Kogel made history at the Stanford Invitational on April 6 with his sixth-place finish in the men's 10,000-meter run. Kogel ran a collegiate-best 28 minutes, 39.54 seconds to set a new Oklahoma program record in the event. Kogel's time is the ninth best in the nation this year. George Alex lowered his program record in the men's 5,000-meter run to 13:35.27, the 10th fastest time in the nation this year. Alex swept the 10,000- and 5,000-meter titles at the conference meet, while Kogel was third in the 10,000 and fifth in the 5,000.

Luke Bryant took over the top spot in the men's discus throw with a collegiate best throw of 202-4 on April 14 at the John Jacobs Invitational. He won the Big 12 title in the event this past weekend.
