McNamara Finishes Fourth In The Big 12 Pole Vault

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Michael McNamara came back from a snapped pole on his first attempt at 17-5 to clear his final attempt at the height and finish fourth in the pole vault at the Big 12 Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon. His effort led the Sooner vaulters to an 11-point performance in the event and a move from ninth to sixth.

McNamara had his best attempt at 17-8 on his first try, clearing the bar before brushing it on the way down. He hit the bar with his feet on his second attempt and didn't make it to the bar on his final attempt.

Mike Westlund, who won the Big 12 Indoor title, finished fifth with a 17-1 and Robin Hanna was seventh with a 16-7.25. The combination of fourth, fifth and seventh produced 11 points for OU, jumping the Sooners into a tie for sixth.

The bulk of the finals started at 5 p.m. central time.
