NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team got back on the winning track with a four-set win over Kansas State Saturday afternoon (25-18, 18-25, 25-16, 25-19). Oklahoma (20-9, 12-6 Big 12) had four players register double-digit kills and held the Wildcats (10-19, 4-14 Big 12) to 10 less digs on the afternoon (82-72). OU reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2007.
Caitlin Higgins led the offensive attack with a season-high 17 kills. Higgins hit a season-best .342 and tallied her eighth double-double of the year with 12 digs. Morgan Reynolds added a career-high 15 kills and hit .444. Sallie McLaurin had 11 kills, connecting for a .500 hitting percentage, and Suzy Boulavsky had 10 kills for Oklahoma.
Brianne Barker had 49 assists, averaging 12.25 per set, and had a season-best 17 digs for her 17th double-double this year. Barker had OU's only service ace and had four kills. Eden Williams also added a career-best 17 digs, and Maria Fernanda had a team-best 20 digs.
Sarah Freudenrich led the Sooners at the net with five total blocks, including one block solo. Boulavsky added four block assists as OU out-blocked the Wildcats, 8.0-6.0.
Barker commanded the Sooner offense to a .284 hitting percentage, just below its four-set season-best of .285 against Texas Tech on Sept. 22. OU committed just 16 attack errors and didn't have more than five in a single set. The Sooners bested K-State in every almost every statistical category, having more kills (62-50), assists (58-45), digs (82-72), blocks (8.0-6.0) and a better hitting percentage (.284-.141).
Lilla Porubek had a team-best 13 kills for Kansas State. Caitlyn Donahue (21) and Lauren Mathewson (22) led the Wildcats in digs, and Kaitlynn Pelger and Porubek each had three block assists. Donahue added 39 assists.
Oklahoma won the opening set, 25-18 behind four kills each from Boulavsky, Higgins and McLaurin. The Sooners hit .261 and committed just four errors. OU led 9-2 and never relinquished the lead in the set. The Wildcats took the second set, reversing the score. The two teams traded rallies early on but K-State went up 14-13 and never allowed the Sooners to get closer than two points split the first two sets heading into the intermission.
The Sooners led 5-0 to start the third and went on to win 25-16. Reynolds had four kills in the set as OU hit .256 to take a 2-1 lead into the fourth. Oklahoma turned it on in the fourth, hitting .378 as a team and getting six kills from Higgins. OU led 5-0 again and won 25-19.
Oklahoma begins the final week of regular season play on Wednesday at Missouri. First serve from the Hearnes Center is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
