Track And Field's Dunlap Earns All-America Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - Leslie Dunlap, the 2001 Big 12 Outdoor pole vault champion, added USA Junior National All-America honors to her growing rsum in competition last weekend. Dunlap finished seventh in the pole vault at the USA Junior National Championships in Richmond, Va.

Her 12-6 vault tied her third-best effort of the 2001 outdoor season and marked the seventh time in 11 outdoor competitions for the sophomore-to-be from Choctaw to clear 12-0 or better. Her best effort of the season, a 13-3.5 vault at the Texas Relays, has her ranked on the junior world list. Juniors are competitors who are between the ages of 14-19.

Dunlap, who set an OU school record in the outdoor pole vault with her effort at the Texas Relays, had four consecutive meets with 12-0 or better vaults, then finished her first collegiate season with three 12-0 or better jumps in her final four competitions. She won the Big 12 Outdoor title with a vault of 12-2.75 on May 18. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor but did not clear the opening height of 12-3.5. She qualified for the NCAA Indoor and finished tied for 12th with a vault of 12-7.5. She finished the indoor season with seven 12-0 or better vaults in 10 competitions.
