Toledo, Ohio - Following the first day of competition at the inaugural Inverness Tournament in Toledo, Ohio, the 23rd-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team is tied for seventh place with Fresno State as it posted rounds of 306 and 296 to finish at 602 (+8). The Sooners are currently five strokes behind third-place UCLA and two shots ahead of No. 20 Kent State. OU's second-round score of 296 was the fifth-best performance by any team during the first 36 holes.

Freshman Martin Flores led the Sooners by finishing nine shots off the lead at eight over par and tied for 21st in only his second collegiate golf tournament. Sophomores Matt Cohn and Chris Cureton are only two shots behind Flores after firing identical two-round scores of 152 (+10). Cureton rebounded in the second round to shoot a 73 after a first-round 79.

Senior Kelsey Cline was the brightest spot for Oklahoma in the first round as he registered a 73. That was the lowest score for the Sooners up to that point in the tournament. Cline is currently tied for 37th and is only one shot behind Cohn and Cureton.

"Kelsey really came through for us in the morning round," said OU Head Coach Jim Ragan. "I was really pleased with his play, especially considering the extreme challenge this golf course presents to all of the teams."

Sophomore Parker Foster also improved on his play in the afternoon to finish one shot behind Cline after posting a round of 75 to finish tied for 39th.

"Our team is a young one but I was impressed with how our players reacted after a tough first round," said Ragan. "I felt like the entire field might have been a bit intimidated by this golf course in the first round and that may have been reflected in the early scores."

Tee times for Tuesday are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. as the Sooners look to strengthen their standing.
