NORMAN, Okla. – Twentieth ranked Oklahoma fell to No. 13 Pepperdine, 4-3, at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday.

The match came down to the No. 2 spot where OU’s Tsvetan Mihov held a 3-1 advantage in the second set after taking the first, 6-3, but Pepperdine’s Finn Tearney rallied, 7-5, to force a final set which Tearney took 6-3.

“It’s a disappoint loss, especially considering we had some singles positions that didn’t show up today,” John Roddick said. “Pepperdine did a great job of playing to win. They were aggressive and the ones trying to win points. We were just hoping that they were going to give it to us and they are too good. We have to stop doing that and if we don’t then matches like this are going to be tough.”

Oklahoma started off the dual taking the early 1-0 lead after OU won battles at the No. 2 and 3 doubles positions. OU has won the doubles point in five of their six matches on the year and suffered its first loss when winning the doubles portion.

The first position to conclude play came at the No. 3 spot where the Sooners’ Lawrence Formentera and David Pultr dropped the Waves’ Hugh Clarke and David Sofear, 8-5.

OU’s Mihov and Peerakit Siributwong clinched the point after the duo torched Pepperdine’s Sebastian Faneslow and Jenson Turner in the tiebreaker set, 7-3, to take the match 9-8.

Eleventh-ranked Costin Paval and Dane Webb sustained their second loss of the year at the No. 1 spot where Pepperdine’s Alex Llompart and Tearney earned an 8-6 win.

In singles action, Pepperdine came back to win four of the six matches; including the match winner at the No. 2 spot.

Pepperdine evened the score, 1-1, after the Waves’ Turner defeated the Sooners’ Pultr in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.

The Waves took the lead momentarily after Pepperdine’s 31st-ranked Faneslow routed OU’s Costin Paval, ranked No. 5, at the No. 1 spot in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.

Seconds after dropping the No. 1 battle, OU’s 56th-ranked Webb knotted the team score, 2-2, following a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Waves’ Hugh Clarke, ranked No. 78, at the No. 5 position.

Guillermo Alcorta, ranked No. 94, gave OU the advantage after the Spain native collected a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position over Pepperdine’s 58th-ranked Mousheg Hovhannisyian.

The score was evened for the third time after Pepperdine’s Llompart defeated OU’s No. 46-ranked Siributwong in 6-3, 6-4.

With the score knotted, 3-3, the match came down to the outcome at the No. 2 position where OU’s Mihov, ranked 57, took on the Waves’ 26th-ranked Tearney. Mihov jumped ahead after taking the first set, 6-3, but dropped a 3-1 lead in the second set to fall, 7-5. In the final set, Mihov fell behind 3-0, but took two of the next three games. However, the Sooner eventually fell to Tearney, 6-3.

Up next, Roddick's squad hosts its fourth-straight home match when OU challenges Arizona on Sunday, March 4 at 12 p.m.
