Oklahoma Rebounds, Defeats Michigan State 4-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 15th-ranked Oklahoma men’s tennis team downed No. 53 Michigan State, 4-0, following its loss to No. 23 Mississippi yesterday at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Classic, inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center on the University of Tennessee campus.

Oklahoma (2-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the No. 1 and 2 spots in doubles. At the No. 1 position, OU’s 13th-ranked Costin Paval and Dane Webb took down Michigan State’s Austin Brooks and Aaron Pfister, 8-3.

Peerakit Siributwong and Tsvetan Mihov, ranked No. 38, earned the Sooners’ second win in doubles after the duo took down MSU’s Drew Lied and Mat Nelson, 8-3.

In singles action, the Sooners earned straight-set victories at No. 1, 4 and 6 to earn the sweep over the Spartans.

Costin Paval, ranked No. 4, was the first Sooner to conclude play. Paval downed the Spartan’s Denis Bogatov in identical-set fashion, 6-1.

Freshman Dane Webb, ranked No. 63, continues to play well at the No. 6 spot where he beat Michigan State’s Gijs Linders, 6-0, 7-5.

OU’s 38th-ranked Tsvetan Mihov clinched the match for Oklahoma at the No. 4 position where he disposed of the Spartan’s Austin Brooks, 6-4, 6-2.

Next up, Oklahoma returns to Norman on Saturday, Feb. 4, to take on No. 39 Nebraska at 1 p.m.
