TULSA, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's tennis team finished another day of competition at the Hurricane Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa. The Sooners struggled in singles action, winning only one of six matches against Kansas, and picked up two victories in doubles against Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

Sophomore Christi Baxley, who won her match in yesterday's competition, was the shining point in the Sooners' singles competition. Facing Elizaveta Avdeeva in a closely fought match, Baxley dropped her first set, 5-7. In the second set, she responded with a 6-2 victory and followed with a 7-6 win in the third set.

Juniors Monica Purice and Anne Carter, and freshman Brittany Baldy lost in straight sets. Sophomore Chelsea Orr, who beat Edina Horvath in the first set, dropped to Horvath in the final two sets, 6-3, 6-3. The other loss for Oklahoma was sophomore Rachael Cox, who fell to Brittany Brown, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.

The Sooners fared better in doubles competition, winning two matches against Tulsa and in-state rival Oklahoma State. Cox and Baldy teamed up to face Tulsa's Tiffany Smith and Julie Westfall and narrowly won, 9-8. The two paired up again later in the day, this time facing Oklahoma State's Jennifer Poskitt and Lauren Simmons. Cox and Baldy handily defeated the Cowgirls, 8-4.

The duo of Baxley and Orr competed in the other two doubles matches. First, they faced Tulsa's Kindsay Grimes and Carla Zabaleta and dropped an 8-5 decision. Hoping to come back with a victory, Baxley and Orr went on to play the Oklahoma State team of Zuzanna Osinska and Ira Tkachenko but lost, 8-3.

The tournament will wrap up Sunday, with Oklahoma facing Tulsa at noon.
