NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma duo of Emily Collins and Taylor Schmidt continued their leaderboard ascent at the Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship Thursday in Dahlonega, Ga., and finished in 16th place out of 55-two person teams.

Collins and Schmidt combined to shoot a third-round score of 145 (+1) Thursday and finished 13 shots behind champions Caroline Powers and Lindsey Solberg of Michigan State.

The tournament featured a different scoring format in each of its three rounds. The OU combo began the day at even par after shooting a 4-over 76 in Tuesday's alternating-shot round and a 4-under 68 in Wednesday's best-ball round. The Sooner pair was tied for 26th place after the first day and tied for 20th place after the second.

Collins, a sophomore, recorded four birdies on Thursday against just one bogey. Three of her birdies came on consecutive holes (3, 4 and 5) as she shot a 3-under 69.

"I played well today but didn't make as many putts as I could have," said Collins. "Overall, it was a really good experience and a lot of fun to play in a tournament like this with different scoring formats each day."

Schmidt's three birdies on Thursday also came consecutively, but much later in the round. She birdied holes 15, 16 and 17 en route to a 4-over 76.

"I struggled today early on in the round but I fought back with those three birdies," said Schmidt. "I never once gave up, so I am happy with that. This tournament was a great experience and I had a lot of fun."

Both Collins and Schmidt are hoping that a busy summer on the course away from Oklahoma will result in a positive fall season both individually and for the OU team.

Said Collins, "I'm excited for the upcoming season and to get back to team golf, especially because I think our team will be really good this year."

"I am beyond excited to get back to OU and begin practices and workouts with the team," echoed Schmidt. "I love being in a routine at school."

The Sooners' 2011-12 schedule will be released Friday.
