This Week in Sooner Tennis:   Oklahoma (2-0) faces Oral Roberts (0-3) on Friday at the Philcrest Racquet Club in Tulsa.  Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. Admission is free. 

Series Record/Last Time:   The Sooner men defeated regional opponent Oral Roberts, 6-1, last season at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Club in Tulsa. Oklahoma then went on to shut out the Golden Eagles, 7-0, in Norman.   
Last Match Recap:   Oklahoma’s schedule got under way with two straight 7-0 victories over Oklahoma Baptist last Friday at the Woodlake Racquet Club in Oklahoma City, marking the second straight season OU has opened with victories over OBU.
     Sophomore Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) and freshman newcomer Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) posted their first two wins as a doubles team. Velicka also picked up his first No.1 singles win as a Sooner over OBU’s Kevan Angel, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Matt Long (Ft. Worth, Texas) and sophomore Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) cruised to two straight victories in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play.
OU Newcomers:  The Sooner newcomers are undefeated after their first match of the 2004 season. Sophomore Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) and junior Ondrej Fukala (Prerov, Czech Republic) picked up their first two singles wins of the spring season.  Freshman Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) also had two straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
     Fukala and junior Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) posted two wins for their first time as a doubles team. Velicka and Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) also defeated their two opponents at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Head Coach Paul Lockwood:  Entering his 17th season as Oklahoma head men’s tennis coach is Paul Lockwood. The OU graduate has compiled an overall record of 234-154 (.603) and claimed the Big Eight Conference title in 1992. Lockwood was named the Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1992 for his outstanding commitment to Sooner tennis. Lockwood’s teams have also earned seven Academic ITA All-America team honors (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003).
OU Will Host 2004 Big 12 Championships:   Oklahoma will host the 2004 Men’s and Women’s Big 12 Tennis Championships this spring at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Tournament action begins Fri., April 30 and runs through Sun., May 2.
