DENTON, Texas - The 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team closed out the 2010 regular season Thursday evening with a 6-1 win over North Texas.
Freshman Keilani Ricketts (25-8) threw her 22nd complete game of the season, allowing just one run on two hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts. She also went 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. With the win, Oklahoma moved to 40-10 on the year, producing the Sooners' 17th consecutive 40-win season.
Senior Lindsey Vandever also drove in two runs on a 2-for-3 night. Vandever and Ricketts each scored a run.
Oklahoma took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Ricketts scored on an RBI single through the left side by Dani Dobbs. After UNT tied the game in the bottom half of the third, Oklahoma posted a three-spot in the top of the fifth.
Pinch runner Krystle Huey scored on a single by Vandever and Ricketts delivered a two-RBI double to plate Vandever and Amber Flores. The Sooners added two runs in the top of the seventh when Flores scored on a double by Vandever and Jessica Shults was called safe at home on an obstruction call.
The Sooners drew three walks, recorded nine hits, three of them doubles and drove in five of the six runs.
Mariza Martinez brought in North Texas' only run, scoring Amber Miller. Ashley Lail picked up the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits. The Mean Green fell to 27-18 overall.
Oklahoma is the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Big 12 Championship at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The Sooners face the winner of Friday night's No. 7/No. 10 winner on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. CT. The game can be heard locally on KREF 1400 AM and free online at SoonerSports.com.
