Sooners Rally Early then Cruise

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners (7-7) defeated the Cameron Aggies, 4-3 and the Oklahoma Baptist Bison, 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Against Cameron Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu defeated Jordi Mullor and Daniel Pazos 7-2 in No. 1 doubles.  The Aggies won both the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Cameron took the No. 2 singles match and pushed their lead to 2-0.

Daescu defeated Pazos, 7-6, 6-1, in No. 1 singles for the Sooners first point.

Cristian Easton defeated Alex Joitoiu, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 singles to put Cameron ahead 3-1.

Ionut Beleleu defeated Saman Samii, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to move the score to 3-2.

OU tied the score at 3 all after No. 4 singles as Chavarria defeated Nicolas Mascheroni 7-6, 6-1.

Ryan Thomas defeated Agustin Criado at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 7-6, to give the Sooners the 4-3 victory.

The Sooners routed OBU in the second match winning all six singles matches and two doubles matches.

Daescu, at No. 1 singles defeated Bruno Scacalossi, 6-3, 6-4.  Beleleu defeated Scott Milner, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles to put OU ahead 2-0.

Vlad Marinescu defeated Peter McCorkle at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2.  Chavarria defeated Gustavo Schhaefer, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.  The victory put the Sooners up 4-0.

Joitoiu defeated Andrew Sharp, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.  Thomas finished out single splay a he defeated Michael Canavan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play Chavarria and Thomas, playing No. 1, defeated Milner and Sharp, 8-1.  Joitoiu and Marinescu defeated Canavan and McCorkle, 8-4, at No. 2.

Oklahoma is ranked No. 61 in the March 25 release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings, while sophomore Andrei Daescu is ranked No. 39 in the ITA singles rankings.

The Sooners travel to College Station, Texas, to open Big 12 play to against Texas A&M on Friday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
