NORMAN, Okla. – The sixth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team dropped a 4-1 decision to the eighth-ranked University of Tennessee on Friday evening at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners (16-4) were held in check by Tennessee starter Cat Hosfield for most of the evening. The Lady Volunteers (19-1) got a three-run triple from Erin Webb to regain the lead late in the game.

Tennessee scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on a Jessica Spigner home run to left center. The Lady Volunteers added three runs in the top of the fifth on Webb’s triple that scored Spigner, Tiffany Huff and Lillian Hammond.

Oklahoma’s lone run came on a fifth-inning leadoff home run to left field by junior Amber Flores. Flores ended the evening 1-for-2 with one walk. Also getting hits for the Sooners were senior Samantha Ricketts, junior Lindsey Vandever and freshman Katie Norris. Sophomores Krystle Huey and Wendy Trott also tallied one walk each for OU.

Ricketts’ third-inning hit was a double to right center and she advanced to third on Vandever’s single down the right field line. Norris was intentionally walked to load the bases and the Lady Vols were able to get out of the jam.

Spigner went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one run driven in to lead Tennessee. Webb went 1-for-4 with the three RBI. Huff also had a multiple hit game, tallying a 2-for-4 night with one run scored. Kelly Grieve also went 2-for-4 for the Lady Vols.

Kirsten Allen threw a complete game for Oklahoma, moving to 4-1 on the year. Allen struck out a season-high seven batters faced. She allowed nine hits and four earned runs to cross the plate.

Hosfield (14-1) also went all seven innings, striking out six and walking four. She gave up one earned run on four hits.
