OU Duo Place In Individual Events While Women's 400-Meter Relay Advances

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Sande' Swaby finished second in the collegiate women's high jump championship and senior Janel Hayes finished fourth in the collegiate women's flight of the long jump in first-day action for the Sooners Thursday at the 107th Penn Relays.

Swaby cleared 5-7.25 to start the day's action for OU. Hayes then posted a 19-4.75 in the women's long jump.

The women's 400-meter relay finished second in its heat with a 45.43 and had the 15th fastest qualifying time (out of 93 relay teams). The Sooners advanced to Friday's collegiate women's 400-meter relay final. The top eight teams by time were placed in a Championship of America final heat while the next eight times are in a college final. OU's race is set for 12:35 p.m. (EDT).

The only other Sooner entry that competed on Friday, the women's 1600-meter relay, posted a time of 3:47.68 to finish seventh in its heat. OU did not advance to the final in that event.

The rest of OU's entries in the Penn Relays will begin competition on Friday as will the Sooners who traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 92nd Drake Relays. OU will host the Sooner Outdoor on Saturday and both the Penn and Drake Relays will end on Saturday.
