NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team opened exhibition play in convincing fashion as it downed NAIA-affliate Oklahoma City University, 2-0, in front of 407 fans Saturday afternoon at OCU. Shannon Wing and Jonette Coquat each recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Sooners.

The Sooners netted their first goal when Wing scored following a corner kick and was assisted by Logan Womack and Coquat with just under two minutes to go in the first half.

Oklahoma's second goal came when Coquat flicked the ball past an OCU defender as the Stars' goalkeeper was out of position at the 47:46 mark. Coquat was assisted by Heather Martinelli and Wing.

Oklahoma outshot the Starts by a 26-8 margin and registered 11 shots on goal to OCU's two. Sooner goalkeepers Ayn Toppin and Jana Cunningham eached played a half and each made one save in the combined shutout.

"In nine first-game exhibitions I've coached, this is the best game I've seen by far," said OU Head Coach Randy Evans following the contest. "I felt that by 10 minutes into the second half, we were in total control. I was also happy that we were able to play everybody, which is a top priority in preseason games."

Oklahoma will play its second and final exhibition game Monday against the '82 OKC Royals club team at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played at OU's practice field which is located at the corner of Jenkins and Timberdell just two blocks south of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The Sooners' first regular season game will be played Friday, Aug. 25, against Tulsa at 8 p.m. in Edmond.
