Norman, Okla. - University of Oklahoma senior Eduardo Najera has been deemed one of the top 25 candidates to receive the 2000 Wooden Award Trophy as the nation's "Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year," announced the John R. Wooden Award Committee.

Najera, a 6-8, 235-pound forward from Chihuahua, Mexico, is one of just two Big 12 players to make the esteemed list of 25. The other is Texas junior center Chris Mihm, who like Najera and Kansas junior center Eric Chenowith, was named to the preseason Playboy All-America team.

Oklahoma's leader in scoring (15.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg) last season, Najera helped guide the Sooners to a 22-11 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. He also averaged 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals per contest, and shot .342 from three-point land (51-for-149).

The 10-player Wooden Award All-America team will be announced March 28, 2000, while the Wooden Award Trophy will be presented April 7. Following is a list of the 25-player preseason All-America team.
