NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this weekend (Nov. 4-6) at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.

The tournament will feature one of the strongest fields the Sooners will see this season.  Of the 18 teams scheduled to compete, 15 are rated in the top 50 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, and 11 are also ranked in the GCAA/Bridgestone Top 25, including consensus No. 1 Georgia, and the tournament host, No. 2 Georgia Tech.

“It’s a great field,” OU head coach Jim Ragan said.  “It’s probably the strongest field we’ll see until we get to the NCAAs.”

The Oklahoma lineup will feature seniors Justin Fraley and Shawn LaFontaine, juniors Nick Sheedy and Robert Stone, and sophomore Phillip Bryan.  Sheedy will be making his first start of the season after playing in seven events as a sophomore, including a top-20 finish at last year’s Big 12 Championship.  Stone will be starting his first event as a Sooner after competing in two tournaments as an individual in 2002.

In their only other fall tournament, the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges, held Oct. 15-16, the Sooners finished in 13th place.  Shawn LaFontaine registered the team’s low round of the tournament with a second-round 71.

In their last trip to the Carpet Capital in 2003, the Sooners placed 15th.  The 2004 event was cancelled due to Hurricane Ivan.

The 54-hole event will commence with 18 holes on Friday.  The second round will be played Saturday, and the final 18 on Sunday.
