FRISCO, Texas - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team is in second place after two rounds at its own Sooner Invitational in Frisco, Texas. OU finished Monday with a team total of 558 (-18). The Sooners shot one-under par the first 18 holes, but rallied in the afternoon by shooting a 271 (-17), the low round of the day. TCU leads the field with a 36-hole total of 551 (-25).

The first two rounds of the Sooner Invitational were filled with excitement as OU senior John Kidwell was matched by TCU's Adam Rubinson with a course-tying record of 65. Also adding to the thrills, Texas' Jeff Bell carded a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole.

Kidwell led the way for the Sooners, shooting a two-round total of 137 (-7) to put him in a tie for third place. Kidwell eagled the 18th hole during the second round en route to his 65.

Junior Martin Flores shot an opening-round 74 and a career low 66 in the second round to put him in a tie for 14th place.

"Overall, I was very pleased with the team's play today," head coach Jim Ragan said. "Kidwell and Flores stepped up in the second rounds and helped the team get back in contention after a disappointing first round. We are looking forward to playing in the last group tomorrow and being in contention going into the last round."

Fellow juniors Doug Manor and Blake Martin were also strong performers for Oklahoma. Manor is in 21st place with rounds of 72 and 71, while Martin shot a career low 69 in the second round. In only his second tournament as a Sooner, freshman Brodie Flanders shot an opening-round 69.

Freshmen Jim Renner and Robert Stone competed as individuals and finished with opening rounds of 74 and 73, respectively.

Tournament action will conclude Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
