COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team fought until the end to defeat the Cyclones of Iowa State, 19-15, today at the National Duals in Columbus, Ohio. Oklahoma entered the 197-pound match-up with only a one point lead. The Sooners (8-3) defeated the Cyclones (5-5) with the help of bonus points from seniors Josh Lambrecht and Tom Grossman.

"This was a huge win for the Sooners," said head coach Jack Spates. "Iowa is the team that just upset the defending NCAA champions. There were a lot of tough match-ups here today. Bo Maynes got put on his back today at 125 pounds, but he fought back. Tom Grossman came up with a key pin for us. This was just a big win because the team kept digging deeper."

Oklahoma's true freshman, Teyon Ware, knocked off defending NCAA champion Aaron Holker. Ware decisioned the top-ranked Holker, 3-1.

"I came out against Aaron Holker and really just wrestled conservatively," said Ware. "It feels really good, but you can't let it give you a big head. I just need to come out and wrestle like that all the time."

Oklahoma's win was decided at 197 pounds, when Tom Grossman pinned Iowa State's Woodley Milford at 1:35. Oklahoma also received bonus points from senior Josh Lambrecht, who had an 8-0 decision over Matt McCarty. Oklahoma's Bo Maynes decisioned 125-pounder Grant Nakamura, 5-7, while senior Robbie Waller provided the Sooners other victory at 174 pounds over Ken Cook.

Senior Witt Durden compiled a 13-match winning streak at 133 pounds before finally falling to seventh-ranked Zach Roberson, 6-1. Sophomore Matt Grice lost by decision to Iowa State's Nate Gallick by a score of 7-6 at 149 pounds. Oklahoma was defeated at 157 pounds, when junior Rafael Maturino lost to Nathan Meyer, 8-4 and also at 165 pounds, when sophomore Wes Roberts lost a close, 3-2, match to Nick Passolano. Oklahoma's Jacob Hagar was defeated in his first collegiate match by Iowa State's Scott Coleman, 8-1.

Oklahoma will wrestle second seeded Iowa tonight in the semifinals in Columbus, Ohio, at 8:30 p.m. EST.
