NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma head men's golf coach Jim Ragan announced Thursday the signing of Brodie Flanders of Vancouver, B.C., to play for the Sooners beginning with the 2002 academic year. Another outstanding junior golfer, Flanders joins a recruiting class that includes Jim Renner and Robert Stone.
Flanders, a native of Canada, attended Petitcodiac Regional School where he was a member of the New Brunswick junior team in 2000 and 2001. He was also a member of the Canadian National Junior Team in 2001 and 2002. Flanders was a part of the Canadian Junior Championship team and was a runner up in the Canadian Junvenile Championships in the 16 and under division. His other career highlights include being named the East Coach Junior champion as well as a runner-up finish in the New Brunswick Junior Provincial Championships. This summer Flanders will be representing Canada at the Toyota World Junior Cup in Japan on June 18-21.
Coach Ragan said of Flanders, "I am very excited about signing Brodie Flanders. He has had a very successful junior career and will fit into our program and what we are trying to accomplish. Brodie is a talented player who has a lot of ability which I'm really excited about. He will be a welcome addition to our program and is very eager to play for the University of Oklahoma. I feel fortunate to get him and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to coach him."
