NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma baseball team bolstered its talent after signing nine prospects during the early signing period this fall. The nine individuals, who will join the team for the 2002 season, are comprised of seven high school and two junior college players. The recruiting class is broken down into five pitchers, two outfielders and two infielders.

"This year's class is one of the largest groups we have signed during the fall period," commented Head Coach Larry Cochell. "We feel like these nine individuals are extremely talented athletes and will help continue to keep the Oklahoma baseball program as one of the best in the nation."

The following is a compilation of each player's significant statistics and honors:

Matt Arkison, Texarkana (Ark.) College, Outfielder - In his first season at Texarkana, he batted .354 with an on-base percentage of.516 ... He also belted nine home runs while driving in 30 runs ... Hit 20 doubles and swiped 20 bases ... Set the school and conference record for runs scored with 78 ... Served as the team's lead-off hitter.

Matt Bose, Midland (Texas) High School, Infielder/Catcher - A two-year letterman at Midland High School ... Fine utility player who has played at both third base and catcher the past two seasons ... Career statistics include a .406 batting average, eight home runs, 44 RBIs and a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen bases ... A two-time second-team all-district selection and twice named to the All-Permian Basin second team ... Selected to the Texas Sunbelt Allstar team his sophomore and junior seasons.

Mike Hinckley, Moore (Okla.) High School, Pitcher - Junior year statistics included a 6-4 record with a 2.70 ERA ... Struck out 57 batters in 61.1 innings of work ... Threw one no-hitters and two one-hitters last spring, including one in the Pure Prairie League state tournament ... Named as the Most Valuable Player of the Pure Prairie League state tournament ... A honorable mention all-city selection last season ... Also selected to the Oklahoma Junior Sunbelt Team ... Competed in a 36-team National High School Tournament held in Phoenix, Ariz., in October ... Threw five innings, surrenderred no hits and struck out 11 during the tournament.

Greg Kish, Mira Costa High School (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Outfielder - A two-year letterman at Mira Costa High School ... Career statistics include a .362 batting average, 10 home runs, 42 RBIs and 13 stolen bases ... As a junior, was invited to the USA Junior National trials and selected to the California Junior Sunbelt Classic all-tournament team ... Named first-team All-Bay League and third-team all-area following his junior campaign ... As a sophomore, recorded the highest batting average and the most home runs and RBIs at the Junior Pan American games.

Jared McAuliff, Stillwater (Okla.) High School, Pitcher - A two-year letterman for Stillwater High School ... Has posted a 12-4 record over the last two seasons ... Fanned 38 batters in 38 innings pitched last season ... Selected to participate in the Area Code Games and earned all-conference honors as a junior ... Led the Pioneers to a 68-19 record and two-straight regional appearances during his career ... Team achieved Frontier Conference title last year and made it all the way to the state semi-finals.

Ben Pinkston, Muskogee (Okla.) High School, Infielder - A two-year letterman at Muskogee High School ... Put together an outstanding junior campaign where he led the Roughers in RBIs (56), doubles (16), wins (9) and strikeouts (91) ... Set the school's single-season home run record with 17 round-trippers last year ... Total was also good for second best in the state class 6-A record books ... Ended last season with a .396 batting average ... An All-State honorable mention selection last year as well as selected as a Muskogee Daily-Phoenix All-Star ... Named to the Oklahoma Junior Sunbelt team where he earned all-tournament honors ... Member of the 2000 Triple Crown World Series championship team and received all-tournament accolades.

David Purcey, Trinity Christian Academy (Dallas, Texas), Pitcher - A three-year letterman at Trinity Christian Academy ... Compiled a 17-2 record over two years, including a perfect 12-0 sophomore season ... Fanned 123 batters in 79 innings pitched as a junior to set the school record for strikeouts in a season ... Is also on pace to break the school's career wins record ... A two-time first team All-State selection ... Named the area's Sophomore of the Year by the Dallas Morning News ... Led his team to two state titles.

Preston Simms, Bethany (Okla.) High School, Pitcher - Junior year statistics include an 8-1 record with a 1.77 ERA, six complete games and 72 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched ... Oklahoma Junior Sunbelt team selection where he was named to the all-tournament team ... Led the Bronchos to a 20-12 record last season.

Curtis White, Seward (Kan.) C.C., Pitcher - In his first season at Seward Community College, compiled a 4-3 record and a 3.27 ERA over nine games ... Also struck out 55 batters in 33 innings pitched ... Unanimously selected as the Freshman of the Year in the Jayhawk Conference ... Also a honorable mention all-conference selection ... A western division selection to the conference all-star game.
